Help for Haiti

The news from Haiti is sobering. While international aid is now becoming fully involved and offering stories of miracle and hope, the scale of this immense tragedy continues to come to light in staggering death tolls and news of desperation. First and foremost, we ask your continued prayers for the people of Haiti. The Cathedral is also asking support for work in Haiti through the ministry of Church World Service, for whom our own Tom Hampson serves as Director of Constituent Engagement. Cash donations may be made to Church World Service online at www.churchworldservice.org, or you may choose to put together hygiene kits or baby care kits that CWS will distribute in Haiti. We will collect the kits next Sunday, January 31, for shipment. From the CWS website: (www.churchworldservice.org)

Leadership Teams

Ministry Teams

Leadership Teams:

(leaders)

Leadership Teams take the place of the former Commission system. Each team should be chaired by someone not on the Chapter. Chapter members serve as liaison to encourage the ministry, ensure mutual support, and see that the Ministry Area is focused on our Core Values. Leadership Teams will include leaders of the various ministries in that area, and others who are not involved in specific tasks. The Leadership Team sets over-all priorities and reviews how the ministries are doing.

Buildings & Grounds

(Leader: Tim Gray)

Sets priorities for maintenance and improvements to our buildings and grounds, identifies what projects should be hired out and which should be addressed by parishioners or staff, reviews bids and addresses long-range maintenance needs. Meets monthly at present.

Children & Youth

(Tamisyn Grantz)

Works with Associate Pastor Susan Haynes to develop excellent Children’s Sunday School and Youth Ministry programs.

Evangelism and Publicity

(team leader needed)

Help our congregation to put our light on a lampstand that the community may know and receive the Good News of God’s love through Jesus Christ. Oversee various means of advertising and communication including the website, advertising, communication of special events and programs, brochures and literature for visitors.

Finance

(Leader: Dave Anthony)

With the Dean, creates and oversees the parish budget and makes recommendations for Chapter action. Oversees any auditing procedures as they relate to the financial state of the parish. Meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:30 pm.

Long Range Planning

(Dr. Michael McCrea)

Assists the congregation in discerning God’s will for St. James, and then develop long-range plans to carry forward God’s mission.

Parish Community & Communication

(team leader needed)

Oversees programs and projects that enhance the well being of the parish family as it seeks to grow in faith and community. Develops and sustains opportunities to welcome newcomers and incorporate then into the life of the parish. Ensures that there is excellent communication throughout the congregation.

Social Concerns

(Rhonda Culbertson & Lisa Philippsen)

“Praising God for the diversity of His creation and the unity of His purpose, we embrace our mission

to love and serve Jesus Christ by loving our neighbors as ourselves. As members of the St. James community, our specific commission is to love the Lord through responsive and respectful service to our brothers and sisters in need. We also educate ourselves and the congregation about how best to meet those needs, with particular attention to our responsibilities as an urban parish ministering to the downtown community. Working together, we strive to ‘be the change we want to see,’ speaking and acting with loving respect, listening for God’s word in one another, and trusting in the Holy Spirit to guide and sustain us as we endeavor to build the Kingdom of God.” (adopted 1/2/05)
