Joseph Anand-Obleton

Joe joined the Cathedral staff in December 2022 as the Assistant to the Dean for Administration. Joe, a retired Navy Chief, recently moved to South Bend with his husband, Michael, and has a wealth of administrative, computer, and teaching experience. He is remotely attending Harvard University, enrolled as a dual degree program candidate, working on his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Government and International Relations, respectively.

Joe’s hours at the Cathedral are Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and he also works as the Missioner for Administration and Special Projects for The Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana on Mondays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Fun Facts

  • Joe and his husband Michael recently moved to South Bend from South Florida in June of 2022. They were married at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea on Palm Beach.

  • Joe’s retired Navy; he retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 22 years of service as a cryptologist, intelligence analyst, and linguist (Arabic).

  • Michael's a career language teacher of 28 years, and he now works at The Stanley Clark School teaching Latin and French, although he is also certified to teach Spanish and German. He has a Master's from Notre Dame, where he taught undergraduate Spanish in the 90s.

  • They have three children. Their son Adrian (28, married, living in Boston, MA, completing his MBA at Harvard); their son Manny (27, married, living in West Palm Beach, FL, manager of foreign relations for a cosmetic company); and their Daughter Aaleyah (23, living in Aiken, SC, Production Coordinator for Best Lawyers). And they also have a dog, Pup (Joe’s service dog), and cat (Xander).

  • So Joe has a full schedule, going to school full-time while working three part-time jobs for both the Cathedral and the Diocese, as well as a substitute teacher at The Stanley Clark School. He’s extremely grateful for these blessings and the welcoming Cathedral and Diocese communities.
