Lent 2019

Lent is a 40-day season of self-examination and repentance, prayer, fasting, and self-denial observed in preparation for the passion and resurrection of our Lord. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday—March 6 this year—and concludes with our Easter celebrations on April 20 and 21. Once again, the Cathedral will offer several opportunities to keep this holy season, a few of which require materials that need to be ordered in advance.

Lent madness

Want an extraordinarily fun ay to learn about women and men of great faith and deeds in Christian history? Check out Lent Madness! Like the NCAA’s March Madness, Lent Madness begins with a bracket of 32 saints—both well-known and obscure—and allows those interested to log-in and cast a vote in each daily match-up. Bios extolling the saintly virtues of each entrant vying for the Golden Halo are provided online. Printed brackets are available on the table in the FPC hallway. To learn more about Lent Madness, about these remarkable people of faith, about purchasing saintly bling, and to cast your daily vote during Lent, go to LentMadness.org. You can also check out the results each week on the large bracket poster that now hangs in the hallway in the education wing.
