Get out those chili recipes, grab your wooden spoon, and fire up the crock pot! Saint James Annual Chili Contest is coming to First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 2. Challenge friends and neighbors! Presbyterians and Episcopalians! Challenge anyone who makes a tasty bowl of winter blues-chasing chili!
How It Works
Contestants make a pot (about a gallon) of their best chili, carry it to the FBC Social Hall in a crock pot or other similar self-warming apparatus, decorate a table, and prepare to serve. We provide the sampling cups, bowls, and utensils.
Guests (not cooks) pay an admission fee ($7 per person), sample all of the chili they care to, and cast ballots for their favorites. At the end of the evening, the ballots are counted and winners receive not-quite-valuable prizes. Beer and wine—we’re checking on that. Soft drinks are available for purchase. Water is free. Antacid is negotiable.
Habitat for Humanity
It’s all for a good cause! Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County’s Matthew 25 House Build. So come on out, tantalize (or terrorize) your taste buds, and help us help Habitat for Humanity in their outstanding mission to provide quality, affordable housing for those in need.
