The Weekend of The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost
(Year C, Proper 17, Track 2)
August 31, 2025
The Dean's List
The Supplication
We will begin both services this Sunday by praying The Supplication, a brief addendum to the Great Litany that can, when desired, stand alone as a prayer of lamentation. The Supplication is especially suitable "in times of war, or of national anxiety, or of disaster." Given the events of this past week in Minneapolis, Gaza, Ukraine, and myriad other circumstances both foreign and domestic, this feels most apt.
Sunday Hospitality in Cathedral Hall
The 2025 college football season is underway! Sunday morning hospitality host Sue Lowe invites everyone to kickoff a new football season in a brand-spanking new Cathedral Hall. She will provide football shaped cookies; everyone else is invited to bring items to rep your favorite team so you can deck the Cathedral Hall halls (well, tables anyway). Sue also invites you to join her in donning your favorite team apparel.

On the Road Again
Summer of '25 Family Wedding #3 is coming up next weekend. Nathan Ford Grantz and Mackenzie Ann Keller will be married in Central Park, New York City on Saturday, September 6. On our way to the Big Apple, Tamisyn and I will take a short detour to Delaware where the retirement community in which my parents lived will hold a memorial service of my mother on Thursday, September 4.
After the weekend festivities, we are going to take our time getting back to the Bend. I plan to be back in the office on Thursday, September 11.

The terrazzo floors in Cathedral Hall were stripped and rewaxed by a trio of professionals this past Tuesday evening. They also did a great job on the kitchen floor!
Cathedral Hall and the kitchen are ready to go for Sunday hospitality thanks to a hard-working crew of Cathedral members.
Fr. Ted Neidlinger of Christ the King, Huntington; me; Mtr. Mindy Hancock of Gethsemane, Marion; Tamisyn; Mtr. Bernadette Hartsough of St. Thomas/Santo Tomas, Plymouth; and parishioners from Plymouth and Valparaiso represented the Diocese of Northern Indiana at the ecumenical prayer vigil organized by the United Methodist Church at the sight of the "Speedway Slammer" at the Miami Correctional Facility. Prayers for compassion, justice, and peace were raised in word and song by more than 160 clergy and laity representing many expressions of the Christian faith.
Macri's Italian Kitchen was packed with Episcopalians on Thursday when twenty-five of us came to dinner! A great time was had by all!
Blessings,
Brian

Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.
