The Dean's List

Shortcakes on the Blacktop
Another year, another wonderful, successful strawberry festival! The initial estimate is that we will have about $9,000 to distribute among our three recipients: Dismas House, Imagination Library, and St. Margaret's House. That number can go up with sales of remaining strawberries ($4/quart; 3 for $10), shortcakes ($8/dozen), and ice cream slices ($4/dozen). More details about post-festival sales will be available tomorrow.

There is a lot of gratitude to be expressed, starting with our festival coordinators Catherine Craker and Helene Dauerty-Randles. A woefully incomplete list of Cathedral volunteers includes mixing and baking coordinator Sue Lowe, flier disseminator-in-chief and delivery coordinator Keith LaPierre; hotline operator Nan Noecker; line runners Laura, Mike, Matthew, and Mariah Worns, drive-thru line runners Tamisyn Grantz, Amanda Helfrich, and the Cathedral youth group; money handler Steven Mast, money counters Peg Swadener, Patty Hans, Diana Walters, and Gianna Walters, delivery crew Dave & Donna Woods, Keith LaPierre, Michael & Joe Anand-Obleton, and Thomas LaPierre; and tear-down guru Daniel Kallenberg; Joe Anand-Obleton also served as our all-around answer-man, which is a) an inevitability given his role on the Cathedral staff; and b) above and beyond the call of duty, but nevertheless handled with patience and kindness. I am absolutely sure I missed others who were essential to the cause; please let me know who and I will be sure to recognize them.

And finally, a shout out to St. Margaret's House and Dismas House staff and volunteers. We quite literally could not do this without you.

Pride in the Park
I had dreams of getting eConnections into your inbox before the Pride in the Park event today at Pottawatomi Park, but alas. It was an all-around colorful, fun, and festive event! Thank you to all from the Cathedral of Saint James and Diocese of Northern Indiana who were there to welcome people in the name of Jesus and the Cathedral community. And thank you, God, for appointing tall oak trees and a constant breeze to keep our booth cool :)

Adult Forum Follow-Up
The general consensus at our June 8 Adult Forum at which we reviewed our recent trial run with Eucharistic Prayer B: Expansive Language was: Meh. While the effort is appreciated, the group - broadly speaking - felt that the application of expansive language was both haphazard and half-hearted. We also had an interesting discussion on the word "Lord" which, for Americans, is almost exclusively a church word that is a) not particularly gendered; and b) describes a relationship in which we are under the authority of Christ, as opposed to "Savior" which describes an aspect of Jesus' messianic ministry. I'm sure there are other thoughts on the subject if you wish to share them with me. Personal conversations would be preferred to email :)

This Sunday we embark on a trial run with Eucharist Prayer A: Expansive Language which we will continue through the end of August, at which time we will host another adult forum for feedback..
