The Weekend of The Third Sunday after Pentecost
(Year C, Proper 8, Track 2)

The Dean's List

It's Been a Quiet Week...
Summer is upon us. This past week was blessedly quiet around the Cathedral of Saint James (and in the Grantzhaus). Catherine Craker reported today that most of the Shortcakes on the Blacktop leftovers have now been sold. Steven Mast reported that our anticipated revenue from SOTB is expected to be somewhere north of $11,000 (yay!). Mudding, taping, and skim-coating the walls in Cathedral Hall is now mostly complete. Next up will be trim work and painting with a goal of completing the job by the end of July. Work on the automatic openers for the new front doors has NOT happened yet, but a meeting with the installer is on the books for next Wednesday, so there is progress. And of little consequence to anyone but the Cathedral and Diocesan staff: in an ergonomically driven move, Business Solutions will be on site this coming Tuesday to swap the finance office and Fr. Mark's office so that the finance team has easier access to the copy room and collaborative space on the second floor. After building a giant obstacle between the finance office and the copy room (Joe Anand-Obleton's new work station), this move just makes sense.

Friday, July 4: Independence Day
The Cathedral Office will be closed this coming Friday in observance of the Independence Day holiday. There WILL be a Friday Noon Eucharist (I know this is not what I said to the lunch crew today, but I changed my mind). There will NOT be a community luncheon following, in large part because Grill 362 is closed that day :)

The Cathedral community will also mark Independence Day at both liturgies on Sunday, July 6.

Rest in Peace Kevin Ullery
Former Cathedral member Kevin Ullery died yesterday afternoon following a long illness. May his soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him. Please pray also for his wife, Marci. Many thanks to Patty Hans, Nan Noecker, and Deacon Anne for their faithful care and companionship with the Ullerys this week.

Cathedral Prayer List

Collect for Proper 8

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Our Country
Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
