The Dean's List

Back to Delaware
I am composing this email from the seating area at Gate 5 in the South Bend airport. I am making another unscheduled trip to Delaware after conversation with my older brother yesterday about a rather precipitous decline in my mother’s health this week, which is - of course - distressing to my father. While we don’t know whether changes in medication and nutrition may yet have an effect, this trip is primarily about a) spending time with my mother; b) supporting my father, brother, and sister-in-law; and c) being present for a care team conference on Monday afternoon.

I should be back in the office on Thursday.

Many thanks for the continued care, support, and prayers of the Cathedral community, with a special shout out to our ministry and administrative team and to Kirk Philippsen for bringing me to the airport at o-dark-thirty.

Call to Prayer: Texas Floods
News cycles are an ever-flowing stream, with headlines moving on relatively quickly to the next big story. This makes sense, but can lead those not connected to the last big story with a false sense of resolution, particularly when natural disasters were the previous story. When hurricanes, floods, fires, and other large-scale events occur, the aftermath is measured in months and years, not days and weeks. I say this only to call us to remember that, while the floods in the Texas Hill Country have largely become short follow-up stories, the reality on the ground is that the death toll has now climbed to 135, with 100 people still unaccounted for. Additionally, widespread destruction continues to disrupt the lives of countless people. I urge your continued prayers and, as you may be called and led, support.

Cathedral Hall Progress

Office Entrance Door Progress
The new entrance is now fully accessible! Door activation plates were installed inside the new vestibule that allows both doors to open with a press of a button from either side of the door. Hooray!

In the process of installing those buttons and reconfiguring the setup at the ramp entrance, though, our install team discovered that the activation plates at the top of the ramp needed to be replaced (because of course…). That door should be operational again sometime this coming week.

Cathedral Prayer List

Collect for Proper 11

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
