The Weekend of the Third Sunday after the Epiphany
(Year A, Epiphany 3)

January 25, 2026

The Dean's List

We really should pray (Jesus, it's cold outside)
I hope you can stay (Jesus, it's cold outside)
The morning has been (Been hoping you'd stop in)
Not very nice (Try not to slip on all that ice...)

The Friday plan for Sunday morning - as seen above - is to proceed with worship as scheduled. If the weather is more inclement than expected, cancellations will be posted per usual on WNDU, WSBT, the Cathedral's Facebook page, and eConnections.

The Youth Group will NOT meet on Sunday.

Discretionary Tales
Back in December, one of the people who came to us seeking assistance was a rather effervescent young woman who was dressed neatly and whose hair was an absolute work of art. She was delightful, and as she handed me her ID - a learner's permit - I realized she was also quite young. When I asked her if there was anything I could pray for, she said - among other things - her health. When I asked gently if I could pray more specifically, her bright demeanor changed a bit and she said, "Yeah, I was shot in the leg." I didn't press for details, but we did talk a bit about how that experience requires healing not just for her body, but for her mind and spirit, as well.

It is humbling to consider the burdens that others carry.

In January, one of our regulars who is a perennially homeless, chatterbox, conspiracy theorist, but nevertheless nice guy, said this: "I don't know what the man upstairs is up to, but we could sure use a bit more help down here."

Amen.

Request for Action
A parishioner who works with homeless persons asks for your consideration and action on the following matter: The Indiana Legislature is back in session and they've reintroduced the bill to criminalize unsheltered homelessness. Please call (it’s generally taken more seriously than emails), please call multiple times, and please pass on this info to your networks. The current action item is to call your state senator and tell them to vote no on SB 285. Arresting people for being homeless does not help people exit homelessness, especially when there are not enough shelter beds or affordable housing units for everyone sleeping outside. And we Hoosiers care about our community members who are homeless!

(Dean’s note: Follow the money here, and ask why it is better to fund incarceration with tax dollars than to expand resources for the homeless and address the conditions which lead to  homelessness).

Winter Walk
St. Margaret's House Annual Winter Walk fundraiser will take place on Sunday, February 15. The walk will begin at 1 pm in our south parking lot, wind around downtown South Bend, and end with a reception at South Bend City Church.

Financial support for St. Margaret's House's operating budget is vital during their year of displacement and construction. The Cathedral is being honored as their community partner of the year, I would love to see a strong turnout from the Cathedral both in numbers and financially.
