Special Prayers This Sunday
I have been following the horrific news coming out of Minneapolis all day. I have spoken with my son, Jesse, who lives and works in the Twin Cities. I have spoken with my friend and colleague, Fr. Tom Cook, who is the rector of a parish in suburban Minneapolis. I have been watching live-streamed video with commentary from another colleague, Fr. Mike Kinman, from downtown Minneapolis. This is a very dangerous moment in so many ways.
I ask your prayers, as Saint Paul bids us, even when we do not know how to pray as we ought, we let the Spirit intercede in us in sighs too deep for words.
The Cathedral of Saint James will offer special prayers at both Sunday liturgies tomorrow, January 25. In place of the customary forms of the Prayers of the People, prayer stations will be set up to pray for strength, guidance, and healing with clergy, to light votive candles for special intentions, and to write prayers of confession and thanksgiving that will be placed on the altar at the offertory (never to be read by anyone). It is also, of course, appropriate to pray silently from one's seat, whether in the church or from home. Please join us.
