The Weekend of The Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost
(Year C, Proper 21, Track 2)
September 28, 2025
The Dean's List
Happy Saturday!
It is true that you never really know how much someone does until they are not there to do it. Joe Anand-Obleton had (successful!) hip replacement surgery this past Wednesday and is now home convalescing. In his absence, I made a mess of our ministry schedules before abandoning that project, made a bunch of much-needed directional signs for Cathedral navigation, then spent a fair bit of time figuring out the software settings for our (not so) automatic doors so the handicap access plates would work on a Saturday. Thanks for all you do, Joe!
St. Anne's, Warsaw
This afternoon I will travel to Warsaw for St. Anne's Church's 75th Anniversary Celebration. Here's the thing, though... I was their rector when they celebrated their 50th anniversary. My, how time flies. Thanksgivings and prayers for the good work God has done and continues to do through that robust congregation!
SMH in Residence
St. Margaret's House is moving in with us in 2026! St. Margaret's House has a major addition and renovation in the works that is scheduled to commence this coming January. During their displacement, SMH will continue limited operations nested at the Cathedral of Saint James, utilizing the main and lower levels on weekdays. Senior Warden Hal Culbertson and liaisons Aubree Schenkel and Kirk Philippsen met with SMH leadership this week to continue to work through the details of their time in residence at the Cathedral. There will be many opportunities to help us get ready to receive them in the coming weeks, so please be ready to lend a helping hand if you are able!
Intern Nan
Nan Noecker will begin her internship at St. Michael & All Angels Church in South Bend on Wednesday, October 1 and continuing through Easter Sunday: April 5, 2026. We will pray prayers for sending tomorrow as Nan - who has been a Cathedral member for 45 years! - takes her leave.
Office Volunteers
Let's try this again... we are seeking volunteers to staff the Joe's desk in the office. If you have a morning or two you can give us (Tuesday through Friday, 9 am - Noon), please click here to sign up. Hopefully the link works this time :)
All Static & Noise
Mary Kenney texted me recently to let all of us know about the 2023 documentary film "All Static & Noise" that will be showing at the Browning Cinema at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on 6:30 pm on Wednesday, October 8. The film - made by a good friend and classmate of Mary's - tells the story of the Uighers in China. Click here for more information.
Heston Supper Club
A great and delicious time was had by all this past Thursday evening! Thank you Steven Mast for your continued coordination of this fun fellowship ministry.
Next up: Pizza Night on Thursday, October 23. Where would you like to go?
Blessings,
Brian
